IPv4 address lease
The RIPE region ran out of PI IPv4 on 14 September 2012. We lease PA space that you can use independently of your upstream provider — so you’re free to work with any provider.
It suits organisations that need addresses now rather than after RIPE membership and the waiting list, or that need more than the /24 a new LIR gets today.

AS number registration
An AS number is a unique identifier that a Regional Internet Registry such as RIPE NCC assigns to a network. You need one to:
- announce your own address space over BGP;
- become multihomed — connect to two or more providers;
- run your own traffic engineering.
Resource sponsoring
If your organisation holds — or plans to request — PI or legacy resources, you need a sponsoring LIR. Only an LIR can request new resources from RIPE NCC on behalf of end users.
The resources are assigned to your organisation, not to us: you can move them to another sponsoring LIR whenever you need.
