Getting started with cPanel: website, email, WordPress

Your first steps in the control panel: a website, email and one-click WordPress.

Contents

Where to start

Open https://cpanel.example.co.uk in your web browser and log in with the username and password for your control panel, where “example.co.uk” is the address of your website.

On the main page of the control panel, find the “Domains” section and open “Domains” in it. This lists all the sites you have created, and you can add a new one from here.

An SSL certificate is created automatically when you add a domain.

If you wish, you can turn on “Force HTTPS Redirect” so that visitors are always sent to https://example.co.uk.

To create a website with an additional domain (or domains), choose “Create A New Domain” in the “Domains” section.

If you are creating a subdomain of an existing domain (for example site1.example.co.uk), leave the “Share document root (/home/userdomain/public_html) with “example.co.uk”” box ticked.

If you are creating an additional second-level domain (for example your-new-domain2.com), untick the “Share document root (/home/userdomain/public_html) with “example.co.uk”” box.

Please note that the domain is checked before it is added, so before you add a new domain to the control panel you need to set the nameservers we have given you at your domain registrar.

Email

To create mailboxes and manage email:

1. Go to “Email” -> “Email Accounts”.

2. Click “Create” and enter the email address you want.

The new address appears in the list.

You can change the settings of an existing address in the same section by clicking “Manage” next to it in the list.

From the same section you can also open the web interface for the mailbox, where the following are available:

  • The webmail client (also available at https://webmail.example.co.uk, using your own website’s address)
  • Autoresponders
  • Filters
  • Forwarders
  • Spam filtering settings, including turning it off
  • Email client settings

Installing WordPress automatically

To create a website on WordPress, open WP Toolkit:

Then click “Install WordPress”, check the settings, enter your own details if needed, and click “Install”.

The installation takes about a minute. When it finishes you will see a welcome window confirming that WordPress is installed and set up, with an offer to add extra plugins.

Installing other pre-installed applications

Scripts (applications) are installed from “Softaculous Apps Installer” at the very bottom of the control panel, and are sorted into categories.

In this section you can also use automatic installation for more than 400 CMS, e-commerce and forum applications.
